6HATS

6HATS Agentur Ekstraordinær is a newly formed international creative agency based in Copenhagen, whose scope is to find solutions either directly or via connecting specialists to any creative demand. 6HATS requested we design their brand identity including a logo that could serve them as visual tool for various applications.

Our solution was inspired by the famous book ”Six Thinking Hats” by Edward de Bono on parallel thinking and problem solving, according to which there are six systems of understanding and dealing with any creative challenge. Our logo furthers the concept of the six hats, aptly suggested in the name, by suggesting a single, universal, super-hat-solution, in the shape of a classic black bowler hat, suggesting that the studio has the means to produce ultimate creative solutions.

The ”6HATS hat” logo works fine along its typography but it also becomes the driving center piece of an endless series of visual compositions used for a variety of communication applications. Within those compositions the hat remains unchanged as a nod to the studio’s integrity and solidness, but its function changes in a unique way suggesting their versatility and understanding of the unique needs of each creative challenge.

The Dons

“By reversing the soberness and the noble context and background of this pizzeria’s name (Don = from Latin ”dominus” meaning ”Lord”) but by maintaining its connection to the Italian Mafia pop-culture in a subtle and humorous manner, we designed its visual identity based on a geometrical, black & white logo depicting the faces of the ”Three Wise Monkeys”.

“As a result of the connection of the visual with the name, the type and the cultural background of the restaurant, the maxim: ”see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evi” is presented here as an alternative of the ”omertà”, the vow of ”silence” regarding the doings, whereabouts and identities taken by the Mafia members. In a second reading , the ”monkeys” may be perceived as a cute mascot that can be the source of a variety of applications including interior graphics, packaging, eating and drinking mats etc. as well as for promotional graphics. One the chief-applications of the ”monkeys” logo, was the specially designed mechanical”

Gabardine

“Gabardine is a Brian Malarkey & James Brennan restaurant concept featuring a menu based on Portuguese seafood cuisine and is set in a small, cozy spot deep in Point Loma. When we reviewed the competition, it seemed as though earth tones and serious attitudes were common attributes. So we decided to take the opposite approach and infuse fun & color when branding Gabardine.

“The whimsical swimmer invites customers to enjoy, shed some inhibitions and spend time with friends. The strong font balances the playful qualities of the swimmer and creates a more gender-neutral image. It functions the same way the Miller High Life girl does with its brand. The colors and characteristics are meant to appeal to both locals and tourists, so everyone can come to Gabardine and be assured of a great time.”

The Local Mbassy

“The Local Mbassy is a boutique café and kitchen paying homage to the locals of the 1920’s. Deeply enthused by the Australian prohibition-era, we’re taking off our hats to the local hooligans, the revolutionaries and to those who made a difference in moulding up today’s Australian art, fashion and coffee culture.

“Upon receiving the brief for the undeveloped start-up business, it was fundamental that a full creative direction, business development, concept, brand and design were developed. This was in the hopes of creating a destination store that played a crucial role in Sydney’s social and foodie culture while serving the perfect brew of Campos Speciality Coffee.

“The boiler room inspired Local Mbassy comes with rigueur exposed beams and bulbs; raw concrete finishes, one off refurbished furniture and a larger-than-life feature mural that sets context and tone to 1920’s Australia.”

Chairish

“Chairish is an online store that has created a fun and easy way for design lovers to buy and sell previously owned furniture and decor to one another. We created a logo and identity system for them that can be used online, across all of their printed collateral, and was flexible enough to be used as a graphic system throughout their office interior.

“The name and attitude of the company is fun and they required an identity that would appeal to all audiences. We reflected the twist and wordplay of the name by creating a logo that takes an Eames lounge chair and swaps the back out for a heart. The client required a graphic language that suggested these items were pre-owed so couldn’t be too polished or pristine. In order to achieve this we developed a collection of hand drawings of the furniture. These drawings are used throughout the stationery system and are blown up large to decorate the wall of their office.”

Osteria Savio Volpe

“Osteria Savio Volpe, which is loosely translated from Italian as “Tavern of the Clever Fox,” is a 75-seat restaurant styled after the classic osteria–rustic fare. Firmly rooted in that tradition, Savio Volpe’s menu features plenty of fresh, handmade pastas; heavy use of the wood fire grill and spit; and a rotating selection vegetables cheeses, pastries and gelato. The brand design brings the name-sake to life through illustrations by artist Shannon Elliott framed with custom typography and graphic elements inspired by Italian Modernism. They depict narrative situations involving the “clever” fox and his eternal nemesis, and favourite food, the chicken.”
